CHARLESTON, SC (October 2011)- MGallery of Fine Art SE is pleased to present “MasterWorks Duo Exhibition” featuring living masters Albert Handell and Clayton J.Beck, III.  The show will be composed of works from bothartists in pastel and oil and will hang from November 4^th – November30^th,. The opening reception will be held on Friday, November 4th, in tandem withthe First Friday Art Walk. We will broadcast the event live on our website  www.mgalleryoffineart.com from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Albert Handellenrolled in the Art Students League of New York City to study drawing andanatomy with the late Louis Priscilla and the late Robert Ward Johnson. He alsostudied painting for two years with Frank Mason. From 1961 to 1965, Handelllived and traveled in Europe. In Paris, he painted independently in his ownstudio, working from the model at L’Ecole de la Grande Chaumiere and at theLouvre, copying the old masters. A 1980 trip to Santa Fe waslife changing, sparking a love affair with the Southwestern landscape. He is aMaster Signature Member of Oil Painters of America. He is one of only threeliving artists to be voted into the Pastel Society of America’s Hall of Fame. Handell currently lives in Santa Fe, NewMexico, and teaches nationally and internationally.


Born in Illinois, Clayton J. Beck, IIIstudied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, as well at the Palette andChisel Academy of Fine Arts with Richard Schmid.  His career began whileattending the American Academy, exhibiting at Jody Kirberger’s TalismanGallery. He has received awards of excellence and distinction from theMidwest Pastel Society, the Pastel Society of America, the Municipal Art Leagueof Chicago, the Palette & Chisel and the Oil Painters of America.  He then began teaching in Chicagoafter graduation.

Art of the Real: David Poxon RI

ART OFTHE REAL: DAVID POXON RI

On Display from April 6,2012 – April 30, 2012

CHARLESTON, SC (September 2011)- M Gallery of Fine Art SE is pleased topresent “Art of the Real,” an exhibition featuring watercolorists AngusMcEwan RWS ARWS, David Poxon RI, Denis Ryan RWS and Sandra Walker RI. As with many movements in the history ofart, these artists have come together in celebration of common ideals. The showwill be composed of approximately 40 watercolors, with 10 pieces from eachartist. The show will hang from April 6^th – April 30^th, afterwhich time it will travel to other cities in the U.S. The opening reception will be held on Friday,April 6th, in tandem with the First Friday Art Walk.

The need to feel a strong personal connectionto their subjects is evident throughout the groups’ work. David Poxon’spaintings of abandoned objects are visually stunning and denote a past – ahidden story of work and toil.  This is arecurring theme in his work, whether it’s a piece of machinery, a lock, a door,sometimes a mountain of old metal and broken tools, that are all in a state ofreclamation by nature. What once were things created and used by man, thendiscarded, become objects of adornment.

When a painting works there is a resonance, which stretches beyondboth subject and picture plane, reaching out to the viewer and transcending amere visual experience. To be able to convey something of the 'real' of mysubjects, which are the commonplace, the overlooked, the places and work thingsof mankind, is a powerful and stimulating experience, a joyful and respectfulthing.
